Rory has nearly 20 years experience of business management and 16 years as a director of small and medium size companies. He has established two businesses and assisted two others with detailed work on their corporate governance arrangements and practices. In recent years, Rory has contributed to government consultations and parliamentary committees on the Community Interest Company and Employee Ownerhip. At present, he is developing new approaches to delivering education on governance for Third Sector organisations.

With a professional background in ICT, and published books / articles on gender relations and workplace governance, Rory has offered a range of specialist consultancy services in the past. As a software designer, Rory became intimately familiar with customer management, enquiry handling, sales invoicing, grant management, subscription management and course/conference booking systems. He gain extensive experience of selling products and services at Computercraft, and helping Third Sector organisations develop their marketing and services initiatives.
In 2006, Rory substantially increased his committment to academia after completing his doctorate (PhD) at the Faculty of Organisation and Management, Sheffield Hallam University. He is now Senior Lecturer in Human Resources and Organisation Behaviour, and an active researcher in the Centre for Individual and Organisation Development (CIOD), and Centre for Voluntary Sector Research (CVSR).
